Germany has now joined the list of countries using India’s UPI. Volker Wissing, Germany’s Minister for Digital and Transport, who participated in the G20 Summit, has acknowledged India’s success story in this digital domain.

Germany’s Central Digital and Transport Minister, Volker Wissing, had an easy experience using UPI for payments, which left him impressed. In fact, Volker Wissing participated in the G20 Digital Ministers’ meeting in Bengaluru on August 19th, and on the following Sunday, he made a roadside vegetable purchase in Bengaluru. During this occasion, he bought vegetables from a market and made the payment through UPI. The video of the German Minister’s vegetable shopping has gained significant traction on social media platforms.

The German Embassy in India, through their Twitter handle X, expressed admiration for the popularity of UPI and its remarkable usage in the country. In a tweet acknowledging India’s digital fundamental services, they stated, “UPI stands out as one of India’s success stories.” Volker Wissing, Germany’s Minister for Digital and Transport, was impacted by the usage of UPI. He mentioned, “It is very user-friendly and transactions are completed swiftly, which surprised me. He appreciated the security features of UPI and commented, “It’s highly secure, and I am confident that my money is safe.”

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) stands as a game-changer in the Indian payment system. The global acceptance of India’s UPI is notable. Sri Lanka, France, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore have collaborated with India to advance fintech and payment technologies. In the upcoming era, Artificial Intelligence (AI), in particular, is poised to bring significant changes to UPI. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) aims to boost the use of UPI transactions, especially through Conversational Payments, by introducing UPI 2.0.
