Mumbai Set to Launch Metro Line 3 Siddhi Vinayak Metro Station – A Game Changer for Devotees and Commuters

By [Datta Nighut ], Mumbai | April 2025

In a major step toward transforming urban transport in Mumbai, the city is preparing to unveil the much-awaited Siddhi Vinayak Metro Station on the Mumbai Metro Line 3—a project that promises fast, underground, and congestion-free travel for thousands of daily commuters and pilgrims visiting the Shri Siddhivinayak Temple in Dadar West.

Located just 100 meters from the iconic temple, the new station is part of Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor, connecting Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ across a distance of 33.5 kilometers with 27 stations. This route, once fully operational, is expected to become a cornerstone in the city’s public transportation system.

Seamless Devotion Meets Seamless Transit

For the devotees of Lord Ganesha, the Siddhivinayak Metro Station comes as a blessing. The temple attracts thousands of visitors daily, with footfall peaking during special occasions like Sankashti Chaturthi and Ganesh Chaturthi. Previously, reaching the temple involved maneuvering through packed roads and limited parking. Now, with a dedicated station entrance just steps away from the temple, visitors can enjoy smooth and stress-free access via the Aqua Line (Metro 3).

A Multi-Access Marvel

The station is engineered for ease and efficiency. Seven dedicated entry and exit points are strategically placed to accommodate large crowds and ensure efficient crowd dispersal. These access points include:

  • A1 (South-East End) – Near Prabhadevi Bus Stop and Old Prabhadevi Road
  • A3 (North-East Side) – Adjacent to Pujya Sane Guruji Udyan
  • A4 (Inside the Garden) – With two lifts, escalators, and staircases
  • A5 (Near Hathi Chowk) – Offering another set of escalators and stairs

Each access point is thoughtfully designed to provide convenient routes to surrounding landmarks like Worli, Dadar, and Parel, while integrating urban green spaces such as Sane Guruji Udyan.

Designed for the Devotees

The ICICI Lombard-sponsored station is not just another metro stop—it’s an infrastructure marvel tailored to enhance spiritual tourism. Its escalator system, installed in a record time of just 18 days for Ganesh Chaturthi, can handle up to 7,300 passengers per hour, showcasing the project’s commitment to managing Mumbai’s ever-growing crowd volumes.

With serene surroundings, aesthetic landscaping, and resting areas within the adjacent garden, visitors can now relax post-darshan before continuing their journey via the metro.

A Strategic Urban Initiative

The Mumbai Metro Line 3 project, estimated at ₹37,000 crore, is a joint venture between MMRC and other stakeholders aimed at decongesting Mumbai roads. The line stretches from Aarey to Cuffe Parade, covering key points like BKC, Bandra, Churchgate, Marol Naka, Sahar Road, and CSMI Terminal 2.

Phase 1 of the project, already functional, includes 10 active stations. The Siddhivinayak Station marks a vital link in Phase 2, which covers Dadar, Dharavi, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk.

The route will eventually connect the heart of Mumbai with its corporate, cultural, and residential hubs, enabling faster cross-city travel and significantly reducing road traffic. For religious travelers, especially those coming from outside Mumbai, this metro station will make reaching the temple more accessible than ever before.

Beautification and Accessibility

Apart from the functional benefits, the area around the temple has seen extensive beautification, including Hathi Chowk and several auxiliary metro buildings designed to blend into the urban landscape. These additions enhance both the aesthetic appeal and practical utility of the locality.

Metro officials have also confirmed that the interior of the Siddhivinayak Station is complete and the station is ready for public use. With trial runs conducted successfully and finishing touches being applied, the inauguration is expected in the coming weeks.

What This Means for Mumbai

This new addition to the city’s metro network represents more than just convenience. It is a symbol of Mumbai’s evolving infrastructure, where modernity respects tradition. The Siddhivinayak Metro Station brings technology and faith together—providing thousands of devotees a dignified, efficient, and comfortable way to seek blessings.

As Mumbai continues to expand and evolve, such urban developments reinforce the city’s commitment to building a livable, connected, and spiritually enriched environment for all its residents.

Conclusion

Whether you’re a daily commuter, a spiritual seeker, or a curious tourist, the Siddhivinayak Metro Station promises to redefine your journey. With its strategic design, proximity to the temple, and city-wide connectivity, it stands as a monumental leap in Mumbai’s public transport revolution.
