On January 20th, at noon Eastern Time, Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States in the Capitol’s Rotunda. Following his swearing-in, US stocks surged, boosting the entire Asian stock market as well. This upward trend raises the question of whether the Indian stock market’s Nifty50 index can break through the previous resistance level of 23,350-23,400.

Trump announced plans to sign several executive orders, including declaring a national emergency at the southern border with plans to deploy troops, a national energy emergency to boost traditional energy production, ending the “Green New Deal,” and removing benefits for electric vehicles. Other measures included establishing a foreign tax bureau to impose tariffs on imports, recognizing only two genders, renaming the “Gulf of Mexico” to “American Gulf,” expanding US territory, and sending astronauts to Mars.

These policy announcements could benefit various industries like new energy vehicles, oil, gas, coal, and more. The tariffs aim to create a new foreign trade system and address inflation, potentially boosting economic growth and the stock market.

Ahead of Trump’s inauguration, domestic markets saw gains on Monday, led by positive global trends and jumps in Kotak Mahindra Bank and Wipro shares. As third-quarter earnings season picks up, we can expect a wide range of trading with specific stock and sector volatility. Asian stocks and US stock index futures rose after President Trump refrained from imposing broad trade tariffs on his first day in office. Consequently, the Nifty50 index might break through the 23,350-23,400 mark today, potentially leading to a significant short-term rally in the domestic market. This aligns with my earlier predictions, as the market had been fluctuating within a narrow range (23,150-23,350) but is expected to rise sharply now that Trump’s policies are becoming clearer.
